Volvo has finally decided to expand its lineup to pave way for a sporty car which is dubbed as XC90 V8 Sport. Said model is given dynamic auto parts such as the stiffened chassis, suspension and engine to satisfy the craving of aficionados for a more athletic car. Level of desirability is pushed a notch higher by giving the car unique appearance, enjoyable handling and comfy amenities.

“We have had numerous requests for a sportier XC90,” says Susanna Johnsson, Product Manager of Special Vehicles at Volvo Car Corporation. “They are from customers who appreciate the versatility and comfort of an SUV but who also want a bit more driving pleasure. We have developed the Volvo XC90 V8 Sport especially for them, with a dynamic sport chassis, stiffer anti-roll bars, firmer shock absorbers, a sport-tuned, speed-dependent steering system, and larger, 19″ wheels,” Johnsson continued.

Volvo XC90 parts were enhanced to achieve a sporty meaning, which does not only extend to aesthetic terms. To boot, the refined chassis is designed to increase real driving pleasure. Other auto parts like the anti-roll bars and shock absorbers are made stiffer to deliver high level of stability especially when cornering. Its steering is also enhanced to provide faster steering response. Additionally, Nivomat system has been fine-tuned to deliver superb driving control and stability.

Obviously, the powertrain for XC90 is V8, which is a dynamic and powerful engine. Said engine, which is capable of generating 311 horsepower, contributes significantly to achieve a sportier driving experience. The engine is mounted in the engine bay to provide more space for loading needs.

“We dare to promise a truly enjoyable experience behind the wheel of a Volvo XC90 Sport,” says Johnsson. “The driving characteristics are of a caliber that few thought were possible in a Volvo SUV. And we have not had to compromise on riding comfort. We have succeeded in finding a balance between driving stability and the capacity to absorb unevenness in the road.”

“Pricing and positioning in this extremely competitive segment are integral to success,” says Anne Belec, president and CEO, Volvo Cars of North America. “Volvo redefined the SUV segment with the introduction of the XC90, and we have continued to refine the process.”

Volvo Delivers Improved V8-equipped Xc90

In the past, Volvo has been known to use five or four cylinder engines and not much with the use of huge V8 engines. The company’s preference of smaller engines is, of course, the safety of its consumers. The Swedish car company is also known for the boxy design of their cars, the reason for which is of course safety.

But as time changes, Volvo see it fit that they must attract the younger car buyers and thus they should be able to match what their competitors offer. That is why Volvo has moved away from boxy designs and has started using V8 engines on their vehicles.

The first ever Volvo to be equipped with a V8 is the award winning XC90 which is incidentally is the prize to be given away by Volvo in this year’s partnership with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film. The XC90 is also the living proof that Volvo has done well in using a V8 engine for their vehicle.

The company has made the XC90 a success because they have taken their time in producing a V8 powered vehicle. By learning what to do and what not to do in the use of V8 engines has made the XC90 an instant hit in the auto market. For the coming years, Volvo XC90’s competitors will surely undergo improvements and Volvo appears to be ready to improve the XC90 for it to remain as one of the leaders in its segment.

For the new model year, the XC90 will be still equipped with the V8 developed by Yamaha for the Ford Motor Company. Partnering with the Japanese company, Volvo has developed an engine capable of producing 311 horsepower at 3900 revolutions per minute. This power is enough to give the XC90 good amount of power for normal uses. The engine is 754 mm in length and 635 mm across. The relatively smaller engine tips the scale at 190 kilograms and is considered as one of the cleanest gasoline engines today.

The engine is transversely mounted onto the engine compartment of the Volvo XC90. Initially, one of the problems faced by Volvo in the use of V8 engines on the XC90 is the space on its engine bay. The XC90’s predecessors are equipped with in-line engines and therefore occupy less space than the V8. While Volvo may have increased the engine bay of the XC90, it opts to use the V8 engine developed by Yamaha for Ford. The smaller V8 engine uses the same angle commonly found on V6 engines. This configuration allowed Volvo to fit a V8 engine on the XC90’s engine compartment.

In terms of safety, the placement of the engine is thought about thoroughly. While other car manufacturers use a 50-50 weight distribution of the two banks of V8 engines, Volvo compromised the balance to give the XC90 a better crash protection. The reasoning behind the compromise is that the slightly out of balance placement of the engine will affect the vehicle’s ride comfort in a very small way that it is almost negligible.

Another step taken by Volvo in fitting the V8 engine onto the XC90’s engine bay is the elimination of brackets. For example, the vehicle’s starter motor is mounted on top of the transmission thus giving space around the engine. The transmission used by Volvo in the XC90 to be mated with the V8 engine is a six-speed Geartronic automatic gear box. One of the most notable features of this gear box is its overdrive gear. This means that the vehicle can have a quieter cruising operation while providing a good fuel efficiency. Shifting the gears can be done manually as Volvo integrated a feature into the transmission which allows driver to do so.

With the high power output offered by the engine and the Volvo XC90’s respectable off-road driving capabilities, it is set to once again dominate its segment. Not only does the XC90 posses a highly efficient engine, the exemplary vehicle also exhibits what Volvo calls Scandinavian luxury. The interior of the XC90 offers good comfort to its occupants with a highly efficient cooling system for hot weathers and an equally efficient Volvo heater core for those cold winter driving. Being a Volvo of course means that the XC90 will be loaded with the most advanced safety features developed.

Five Fule Prototype Another First for Volvo

Volvo has never failed to amaze customers with its exciting design concepts. And right now with its one engine, five fuels concept the world will once again marvel at the greatness of Volvo’s technology. The latest prototype built by Volvo is designed to answer the alarming environmental concern of customers. And earlier the automaker has manufactured the prototype V70 that can run on five fuels and of which the majority are environment-friendly.

Volvo is famous for its commitment in leading automotive milestone. As proof of this is its remarkable safety and ninety-degree body work that are marveled throughout the world. After all long years of being in the industry, Volvo has already established a name that exemplifies style, quality, cutting-edge design and unparalleled green technology.

It should be noted that some Volvos feature PremAir technology. This is a radiator treatment that consumes ozone in contact resulting to a cleaner, fresher and more breathable atmosphere. Volvo has also launched its first V8 engine from Yamaha. This engine is said to be clean enough to make Volvo XC90 V8 as the only V8-powered vehicle in the world to meet the ULEV II emissions standards.

And lately the automaker has been very busy trying to develop a vehicle that could compete in the Michelin Challenge Bibendum which is the world’s leading automotive green-energy symposium. It is also in this very same symposium in which automakers parade their cream-of-the-crop environmentally friendly creation.

For the previous symposium held in Shanghai, Volvo has presented its unique 3CC Concept Car which is a 2+1 seater electric car. This vehicle is capable of providing real-world performance and range. As a matter of fact, even car aficionados thought that Volvo will not be able to produce a vehicle that could surpass the border of the 3CC Concept. But as always, the automaker has proven them wrong when it presented its practical, family-friendly station wagon that runs on five different fuels—the Multi Fuel Prototype.

The concept car was based on the production version of the V70 which is a station wagon. The distinct difference is in terms of the paint job since the Multi Fuel Prototype was painted in a vibrant electric yellow hue. And of course as expected it comes with a little Volvo surprise found under the hood. The fuels for the Multi Fuel Prototype includes standard gasoline, E85 (bioethanol), natural gas, biomethane, and hythane. From among the five fuels the hythane is the most interesting in the sense that it’s a mixture of hydrogen and methane. It is also the most recent type of fuel blend introduced to the public. The hythane is composed of 10 percent hydrogen and 90 percent methane.

Besides the ability to run on five different fuels, another notable feature of the Multi Fuel Prototype is its relatively consistent high-performance no matter what the fuel used. Volvo said that the turbocharged engine prototype is producing about 200 horsepower and sufficient enough to power up the wagon.

The hythane together with the E85 (bioethanol) and CNG biomethane are considered extra-clean fuels, this is also one of the very reasons why the vehicle has been able to pass all existing emissions regulations imposed in any market at present. The automaker is also confident that its Prototype will be able to pass the upcoming EuroV emissions regulations. The mentioned fuels also possess qualities that can make them carbon neutral. What does it mean? It means that the amount of carbon emitted when the fuel is burned is equivalent to the amount acquired by the crops used to make the fuel.

And here is another news! —The Swedish luxury brand of Ford is also contemplating in converting its entire lineup into green cars. The S40 1.6D is just one the automaker’s efficient production vehicle that consumes 48mpg of diesel. The emissions produced are fifteen to twenty percent lesser than an equivalently powerful gasoline model.

The V50 which is a station wagon variant and available in Europe is a Flexi-Fuel model. The car can run using E85 bioethanol. By using bioethanol it generates approximately 80 percent fewer carbon dioxide emissions as compared to gasoline. Another Volvo’s green pride is the S60 B-Fuel which is powered by gasoline and biomethane. The biomethane reduced tailpipe emissions of carbon dioxide by almost 25 percent as compared to gasoline fuel emissions.

Volvo’s green prides makes use of only the highest quality of auto parts starting from its large parts down to its teeny bit parts like the Volvo motor mount. Every Volvo vehicle that comes off the production line is a perfected work of art.

Sport utility vehicles have been known for having good driving capabilities and a large space for passengers and cargoes. Not to mention that SUVs also are great at looking cool. But they have also been known to be gas guzzlers and that is why manufactures competing in the SUV market continually develop ways to increase their vehicles’ fuel efficiency without sacrificing the traits that are uniquely SUV.

One such company making a step toward developing an energy efficient SUV is Volvo, the Swedish company known for their dedication to providing safe cars to the public and the market. Their answer to the call of the SUV market is their Volvo XC90, the 2007 year model. The vehicle has the capabilities and visual traits of an SUV. The vehicle is one of the tallest in its class, giving its occupants more headroom. This one also boasts of its interior design that gives adequate legroom for the first and second row seats. However, the third row seat is best left for children but is pretty much common on all SUVs. In a nutshell, though, the vehicle all in all is roomy.

The interior of the SUV has been given much thought, thanks to the company’s inclination to safety; the car is equipped with different safety systems. It has the company’s Whiplash Protection System which protects the occupants’ spine and neck in cases of crashes by letting the backrest move back with its occupant. Also employed is the Side-Impact Protection System which is primarily designed to protect the car’s passengers and drivers during side collisions. Another safety system integrated in the vehicle is the ROPS or the RollOver Protection System which provides curtain airbag deployment to protect all the cars’ occupants and passengers. The standard front airbags are also present and pretension seatbelts are also thrown into the mix.

The car’s performance is also noteworthy thanks to its 3.2 liter in-line 6-cylinder twin-cam, 24 valve engine giving a maximum output of 235 units of horsepower while the fuel consumption is kept to a very reasonable level. While the power takes time to flow through due to the engine’s configuration, a number of parts work together to transfer that power to the wheels to provide an optimum driving experience. The car’s 6-speed automatic transmission is one of those and other drivetrain parts – these are products of precision engineering. Suspension and steering is satisfactory thanks to the high performance parts like the Volvo ball joints among others which works perfectly with other components to provide superior handling of the car.

This car is one of the more promising SUV in the market today, with its safety systems and better fuel efficiency, the XC90 is on the way of being a serious challenge to other car manufacturer’s models.

Trucks have been known to be Volvo’s toughest vehicle – after all they are the world’s second largest manufacturer of bus, coach and trucks. But with the release of the Volvo XC90, trucks are not only vehicles coming from Volvo which exhibits toughness.

The Volvo XC90 is a station wagon released by the company to compete in the still growing station wagon market in the US. The car’s toughness though is belied by its stylish exterior design and its luxurious interior. But true to the tradition of Volvo, the station wagon is equipped with a high performance powerplant under its hood and a wide array of high performance components for every system.

The car’s toughness is not exhibited in its size either, the Volvo XC90 is not the biggest in its class, but the car’s design allows it to have greater power and better off-road driving capability. While it cannot be considered small, its size is dwarfed by its competition in its class. But what the Volvo XC90 may have lost in size, it makes up with power and toughness even on off-road conditions. The car’s off-road capability is even better than some pickup trucks in the market. With this vehicle, Volvo has added another dimension to their mass produced cars which is toughness.

The Volvo XC90 brings to the table a perfect combination of power and toughness, luxurious interior design, stylish exterior and an array of safety features. The toughness of the car rivals that of Mercedes-Benz, and that is saying a lot since Mercedes-Benz produced vehicles are one of the toughest road vehicles out there. The construction of the body and the frame to make it more stable and exhibit more toughness also increase the safety of the occupants. The steering and suspension system of the car also works to perfection to power the car through some of the toughest off-road conditions. The Volvo XC90 does this with the help of its all-wheel drive configuration.

The car’s interior offers the occupants comfort and convenience thanks to its array of cool features. The entertainment system inside the car is one of the best in any vehicle out in the market. It has power features like mirrors and windows which are powered by a reliable Volvo window motors. The car is also loaded with safety features that Volvo has become known for the world over. Safety systems like the Blindspot Information System or BLIPS gives the driver and passengers peace of mind knowing that they are on board a car that will not only protect them in case of crashes but also warns the driver of a possible cause of accident.

Safety Comes First With the Volvo Xc90

Sport utility vehicles are known to be a tough breed of cars for they are designed to be tough. They have been created to be such not only as a protection against natural wear and tear but also because they are intended not only for the paved city streets and highways but also for off-road conditions. They have to take what kind of punishment off-road driving may pose while still maintaining their high power output and performance.

Toughness is not the only essential aspect of an SUV though since these cars are sometimes tasked to handle almost extreme terrains. Safety of the car’s occupants should also be a primary concern in the production of such vehicles. After all, accidents do not happen only on the untamed off-road environment so, SUVs and any car for that matter, should be produced with safety in mind.

When you are talking about cars and safety, the first thing that comes to mind, of course, is Volvo. The Sweden-based car manufacturer is the world’s leader in production of safe cars. Their priority to take care of safety issues first has been the company’s strongest selling point in their 80 years of existence in the automobile market. Their list of safety features is outstanding and all of their cars in production have rated highly on safety tests. As a matter of fact, their sport utility vehicle, the Volvo XC90, is one of the just 13 vehicles to be rated “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). To be given such a rating, the Volvo XC90 has been subjected to a battery of tests.

Three tests are conducted by the institute to measure the safety of the vehicle. One of these is the front crash test at 40 miles per hour to which the Volvo XC90 scored the institute’s highest rating of “Good”. Side crashes at 31 miles per hour is another test conducted by the institute and, once again, the Volvo XC90 got “Good” ratings as well. The third test is designed to assess the car’s protection of its third row seat occupants. Rear crash tests at 20 miles per hour are used to determine the cars’ defense against rear collisions and for this, the Volvo XC90 showed that it can adequately protect its occupants thus resulting to another “Good” rating.

The high ratings that the Volvo XC90 got comes as no surprise as its creator and manufacturer is known to produce cars that are not only of high caliber when it comes to performance but are also loaded with safety features developed by dedicated research facilities. Aside from a complete line up of airbags that covers every part of the car where it will be needed in case of crashes, the Volvo XC90 also has three-point pre-tensioning seat belts on all seats which is Volvo’s standard safety feature. Safety features includes Volvo’s BLIS, or Blindspot Information System, which uses digital cameras to monitor the blind spot of the car. Such a system warns the driver if any vehicle has entered his car’s blindspot.

With a very credible safety credential, the SUV is making a strong case in its challenge for the top spot in its class. Of course, the performance of the vehicle is also given much though as its safety. The Volvo XC90’s top trim package which is the Sport version is equipped with a 4.4-liter V8 engine which can give out 311 units of horsepower. Its transmission is precision engineered to facilitate a smooth transmission of power to all the wheels via the drivetrain composed of tough and reliable components like the Volvo axle. The all-wheel drive configuration gives the Volvo XC90 great stability and off-road driving capabilities that makes the sport utility vehicle a serious contender for the top spot in its class.

The perfect combination of high performance rating and safety makes the Volvo XC90 the company’s top seller in the US market. Its stylish designs and cool features make this car appealing to a younger buyer crowd.

A car’s performance is not the only thing there is to consider when buying a vehicle. It is, of course, imperative that you go for the car with a great handling capability, superior stability, and a fine off-road driving capability if you opt for a sports utility vehicle.

But safety should not take a backseat to all these characteristics. A car’s safety features should also play a major part in the choice of a car. One car manufacturer that comes to mind when safety is mentioned is, of course, that Ford Motor Co. owned Sweden-based outfit, Volvo. They have been known for years to produce safe cars no matter what segment of the market they are competing in.

One of their recent success stories is their sturdy sports utility vehicle in the form of the Volvo XC90. This tough SUV is one of their best-selling models out in the market today. The car’s strong selling point is, of course, its safety features that only Volvo vehicles can offer. In fact, the sports utility vehicle earned good ratings on the safety tests posed on it by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Tests include front crashes at 40 miles per hour, side crashes at 31 miles per hour, and rear crashes at 20 miles per hour.

The Volvo XC90 is one of just 13 vehicles to be rated “Top Safety Pick” of the said institute. The third test posed by the institute to the car shows that it can protect the third row seats that are normally reserved for children.

The safety rating of the car comes as no surprise given its wide array of safety features that are a given for nay Volvo models. The Volvo XC90 has the standard safety features like the antilock brake system, an electronic rollover prevention system, and stability and traction control. It also comes with a complete lineup of airbags, including side curtain airbags that covers all three rows of seating. Not to mention the pre-tensioning three-point seatbelts on all seats. Optional safety feature is the BLIS or Blindspot Information System that uses cameras mounted on the outside mirrors that warns the driver if a vehicle has entered his blindspot. These line of safety features rivals those of its toughest competitors.

The Volvo XC90 comes in different trim levels so as to suit the need of any costumer. The choice of engines starts with the base model which employs a 3.2-liter in-line six-cylinder engine to the Sport version which offers a V8 engine. This engine is the first V8 engine that the company has employed in its long history. The six-cylinder engine gives out 235 horsepower and to increase its fuel economy, it employs a variable cam timing and cam-profile switching which allows the intake valves to open at different heights depending on the power demand while the 4.4-liter V8 engine produces 311 horsepower. All these power from the engine, be it from the in-line or the V8 engine, gets through to all the wheels via a wide array of high performance Volvo XC90 parts that are known to be precision engineered and also much popularized because of their reliability.

The sports utility vehicle has amazing off-road driving credentials that make it a top choice for the generation that would like to trek the outdoors onboard their SUVs. While a large part of the American car buyers are turning their back on the SUV market due to the increasing prices of petroleum products, the Volvo XC90’s fuel economy is not so bad compared to other vehicles in its class. That fact and the safety and comfort that the vehicle offers makes the XC90 Volvo’s top seller in the US market with a young buyer base at an average of 44 years old.

Volvo’s name has always been associated with safety features that abound in their car models. The company’s vehicles produced have been receiving high marks in safety tests year after year. But their safety standards are not the only good thing about the cars they are mass producing, they are also known for their designs which are uniquely Scandinavian. Remaining true to its roots, the company uses in their car contemporary ethnically inspired design which up to now has been welcomed warmly by the public. Pushing the bar higher for themselves and their competitors, they are now going for the Scandinavian luxury theme in their newest installment of their luxury sedan which is the Volvo S80.

With the interior design of previously released vehicles from Volvo accepted eagerly by the public, the company sees it fit to continue what they are doing in terms of design and at the same time bring to the table a much improved engine performance of the Volvo S80. The company’s step to further increase the aesthetic value of their car is a good one since they are up against very tough competition with the likes of the Audi A6, the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The new model will feature a more refined design based on the previous version to further increase the luxurious fell inside the car. Safety features, which the company is known for, will be abundant to ensure the safety of their consumers.

The performance of the car will also be better to that of the previous model. The newest version will stow under its hood a V8 engine borrowed from its brother, the Volvo XC90. The engine will also be a 4.4-litre V8 with a maximum output of 311 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque which is enough to power the car against its tough competition. To add stability to the Volvo S80 with the V8 engine, an all wheel drive configuration is bestowed upon it by the hardworking men behind the company. All the power from the V8 is transferred to all the wheels via a six-speed automatic or manual transmission which provides smooth gear shifting. Performance is also enhanced by high performance parts like the Volvo fan blade which helps keep the engine in its normal operating temperature.

The car is, of course, a Volvo and with that name, it carries a wide array of safety features some of which are standard on all Volvo vehicles. Aside from the legally mandated airbags and seatbelts, the car is also equipped with an adaptive cruise control which maintains a certain distance from the car directly ahead of it. Swiveling bi-Xenon headlights are also integrated giving the driver the convenience of better vision when turning on curves. And coming from the world’s leader in car safety, comes the first ever remote car unit. This device allows the user to monitor whether the car is locked or not from as far away as 330 feet, aside from that, the monitor can detect heartbeat for the driver to know if someone is inside the car.

This upcoming January, the Volvo Cars Corporation would soon be introducing and unveiling their newest compact sports utility vehicle. This big event would be done during the Detroit Motor Show. According to sources, the new compact SUV bears the name XC60 instead of the XC50.

Taking a look at the new Volvo XC60, experts have agreed that this one looks just like the Volvo XC90, only much smaller. But still, it is quite large compared to the current Toyota RAV 4 model. This new vehicle that would be competing with the likes of the Lexus RX, BMW X3, Mercedes Benz GLK Class, and the Acura RDX.

Volvo made sure that this vehicle is going to be a good performer off and on the road so the company equipped the vehicle with quality Volvo auto parts. And this would be quite a new one for Volvo. Compared to the upcoming Volvo V70 and the XC70 estate crossover sport utility vehicle, this Volvo XC60 can take on the challenge of rough and off roads.

The company further informs the public that the new Volvo XC60 would be mounted with engines just like those that are used on the Land Rover Freelander. Speculations have it that this new vehicle would be coming with a 3.2 liter inline six engine or the Ford PSA diesel engine. But what is sure is that this SUV would be mounted with the Haldex four wheel drive system. This system would be the same one to be used in the upgraded XC70 and all other Volvos that have an all wheel drive.

According to the company, the Volvo XC60 is actually one vehicle that has been created and designed using the S80 platform of the auto manufacturer. But you see, this same platform would soon be used by the upcoming midsized vehicle models from Ford, Mazda, Mercury, and even Lincoln. Previously, rumors were rounding the industry that the Volvo XC60 would be using the C1 platform instead which is currently being used by vehicles like the Volvo C30, Volvo S40, Volvo V50, Mazda3, Ford C-Max, and the Ford Focus.
